Vitalus conducts multi-disciplinary research on policies and practices, focused on impact of health service on quality of care and patient centered outcomes. Monitoring and Evaluation of Primary Health Care Intervention in Sudan

(DFID#: 90041955): 

Vitalus implemented and managed a 3-year project to provide technical monitoring and evaluation system to guide primary health interventions for Internally Displaced Persons in Darfur, Sudan

  • Conducted large population-based cluster survey to assess baseline to assess the access to primary health, health seeking behaviors and health indicators
  • Implemented and trained local staff on LQAS survey methodology data collection
  • Trained local staff on LQAS data analysis and how to use data finding set benchmarks and to make decisions about allocation of services and management decision to meet benchmarks

Prevention & Response to Survivors of Violence for Female Refugees in Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Colombia

(SPRMCO10CA0206) : 

Vitalus worked in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) non-governmental organization to provide technical support to develop and implement an innovative surveillance system to identify survivors of among female refugees living in Uganda, Kenya,

Ethiopia, and Colombia

  • Conducted systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the range of gender based violence experience and prevalence rate among conflict affected populations
  • Conducted qualitative research that included individual interviews and focus groups with GBV survivors and service providers
  • Developed and tested the Assessment Screen to Identify Survivors Toolkit for Gender Based Violence’ (ASIST-GBV) screening tool for refugee and displaced women and girls in 4 different countries
  • Implemented the screening tool as a routine service in health care settings
  • Survivors of violence are linked to the IRC and UNHCR team to provide medical, mental health and social support
